While it receives little attention from visitors, Poza Rica is the largest city in the El Tajín region. It is situated in the foothills where Highway 130 from Mexico City intersects the coastal Highway 180.

• Poza Rica El Tajín Airport has service from Mexico City with connecting flights from most american carriers. Many find the cost of flights into Poza Rica to be prohibitive.
• Poza Rica is situated at the intersection of Highway 130, the major road from Mexico City, and Highway 180, the coastal highway. The city is easily accessable by rental car or motorcoach from Mexico City or Veracruz. Many bus lines service the area, including ADO.

• El Tajín is one of the best known Archaeological sites in Mexico. The most obvious artifact in the archaeological zone is the famous Pyramid of the Niches, a seven-level pyramid with 365 niches once filled with images of various gods. But many find the carvings on the walls of the ball courts to be even more significant. The style seems to borrow heavily from the Toltec and Maya cultures, though the original builders are thought to have been either Huasteca ot Nononoca. The development seems to have stretched out from the second century BC to the 13th century AD.
