Nautique Cafe
I had the good fortune to pass by the Nautique Cafe one mid-day whilst being
both hungry and without plans for the remedy of said afliction. Showing either
rare good decision making or being blest by even rarer good fortune, I joined
the mostly-young clientele for one of the best Comidas Corrida I'd had
in a long while.
The "Comida Corrida" is more or less the Mexican idiomatic equivalent to the
Businessmans' Lunch. For under $4.00 usd, they start you off with "una jarrita
de Agua de Fruta", a small pitcher of watered fruit juice. This comes out with
a small bowl of soup. In my case, "fideos" (noodles) in a tomato & chicken
broth. I selected a green pork mole, really almost a soup with a side of rice
to add in to taste. Also on the side was a nice pool of flavorful refried beans
and the ubiquitous stack of warm tortillas. And even the caramel-drizzled flan for
desert was included in the price.
If you get here early enough, there's a wide selection of breakfast offerings
for under $3.50 usd. And all day long, there are a la carte selections from the menu.
Not including any cerveza you might choose to include, you'd be hard-pressed
to spend a sawbuck a head eating here.
And you will come away satisfied.
Bon apetit at Nautique!
