Boca del Rio has become a southern suburb of Veracruz. Much of the celebrated cuisine of Veracruz actually originated here at the mouth of the Jamapa River.Many of the nicest resorts of the City of Veracruz are actually inside the municipal limits of Boca del Rio.

Boca del Rio is located on the southern edge of Veracruz, where the main coastal drag splits with the easterly portion going towards Anton Lizardo and the westerly fork going more directly to Alvarado. .
