Veracruz hosted representatives of just about every stage of Mexican civilization. The Olmecs, who left many archaeological treasures, particulaly in the Los Tuxtlas area, are thought by many to be the oldest pre-Colombian civilization in Mexico. At the other end of the pre-Colombian time-line, the Totonacs and Huastecas were building their centers when Cortéz tied up to begin the European conquest of New Spain. The process of writing up Veracruz Archaeology will be an on-going, ever-changing, ever-evolving project. We invite articles, learned and not-so, about this subject.
