Acayucan is a small city positioned about 56 km east of Coatzocoalcos and 100 km west of Catemaco at the intersection of gulf coastal highway 180 and trans-isthmus highway 185. It is a convenient stop for folks on their way to the Oaxacan coast or on their way to the Yucatán. It was actually an Olmec center as early as 1600 B.C. and served as a major trade point with Tenochtitlán during the Axtec period of domination. While Acayucan is not geared towards tourism, this adds to its charms, in many ways. There are a number of lovely parks and plazas as well as admirable architecture, particularly embodied in the many schools and government buildings.

Hotels
