He began his studies to become a dive professional in 1985, diving the reef system of the Veracruz National Park. He received his initial certification that same year from FMAS (Federación Mexicana de Actividades Subacuaticas) and CMAS (Confederación Mundial de Actividades Subacuaticas). For the uninitiated, CMAS is a very rigorous, strenuous diving discipline, akin to the "old school" certification programs like L.A. County Scuba Association and YMCA.
In 2003, Rogelio joined PADI and became Divemaster 186610. He is in active status.
Rogelio is an active local guide with 20 years' experience on the Veracruz reef system, including the National Park; Roca Partida; Isla se los Lobos (Wolf Island), near Tuxpan; and other sites around the country and abroad.
Rogelio worked as a dive guide out of the Sheraton Huatulco Resort (now the Barcelo Huatulco)from 1990 through 1993. While living in Huatulco, he organized excursions to discover new dive sites. Many of these sites have become famous, such as Punta Conejos; La Montosa Island; Punta Maguey; La Blanca; El Violín; and Tapesco, among others.
In 1993, he organized an excursion to climb La Montosa, finding a number of significant acrchaeological specimins from the Zapotec culture.
Concerned about environmental protection, Rogelio has been a member of REEF, Reef Environmental Education Foundation, since 2005.
Rogelio speaks English fluently.
Rogelio facilitates all levels of diving courses as well as various diving specialty courses under the name of AquaClub, an organization promoting watersports activities, at the following locations:
